Our philosophy focuses on each individual's full and complete recovery, from start to finish. We utilize a broad range of both traditional and innovative therapies tailored to each resident’s unique needs.

  • Individual Therapy – One on one therapy with a counselor who specializes in the treatment of Substance Abuse and PTSD.
  • Group Therapy – A major component of our treatment includes group therapy, which we use to provide education, skill building, and support to our patients. No one recovers alone, and having a support network of like-minded people is one of the basic foundations for recovery.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – Certain situations can increase hypervigilance and arousal for you far more quickly than the average person’s, and take a significant amount of time for you to return to baseline. DBT is a Cognitive-behavioral approach that helps you react in a less intense manner toward certain emotional situations, primarily those found in romantic, family, and friend relationships.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - This is a short term, goal oriented treatment to take a hands-on approach to problem solving. The goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior to change how they feel.
  • Adventure Based Counseling (ABC) - Through an active, experiential approach to therapy, clients will utilize cooperative group activities, outdoor pursuits, and expeditions employing real or perceived physical and psychological risk. This type of therapy challenges desired behavioral changes synonymous with psychological healing, then are applied across life domains.
  • Stress Inoculation Therapy (SIT) - Consists of eight to fifteen, 20 to 40-minute-long sessions. This form of therapy is intended to help patients prepare in advance to handle stressful events with success and the least upset. SIT consists of three phases: initial conceptualization, skills acquisition and rehearsal, and application and follow through.
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Per SAMHSA -The use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Research shows that when treating substance-use disorders, a combination of medication and behavioral therapies is most successful.
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) - Magnetic stimulation of nerve cells to improve symptoms of depression, pain, anxiety, and obsession-compulsive behaviors. TMS is not an intrusive form of therapy.
  • Mindfulness - is a state of attention to the things which are present within your mind, your body, and your environment. Mindfulness teaches you to observe and experience your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judging them.
  • Physical Training (PT) – Exercise is an important component to recovery and to ensure you stay physically healthy while you’re in treatment, we provide multiple opportunities for patients to participate in Physical Training.
  • Neurofeedback – Is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity to teach self-regulation of brain function.
  • Brain Gym (Houston Location Only) – As a supplement to our Substance Abuse and PTSD treatment, we also offer comprehensive treatment for mild and moderate Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI.) Part of our care and treatment include utilizing computer based programs to improve cognition, memory, concentration, and processing speed which can vastly improve the lives of those impacted by a TBI.

Typical Day at 5PALMS of Ormond Beach, Florida

Morning wake up calls at 5PALMS are an invitation to begin a new day – a day where anything is possible – a day where you discover opportunities to let your mind, body, and soul heal. If you choose to participate, we begin our mornings with a daily reflection, designed to rejuvenate, bring joy, and give insight for daily living. We also allow an opportunity for everyone to participate in morning movement therapy, which may consist of walking, running, yoga, or even heading to the gym. After a refreshing shower, our culinary team will treat you to a hot breakfast; for those who crave something a little lighter, we offer an array of dietary options to meet your needs.

During our morning education sessions, you will be provided with the most current information on topics such as: Addiction, Mental Health, and Medical Care. This is followed by additional skills-based education that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (which is a fancy way of saying, we teach you how to change the way you think, feel, and act.) Next, you will engage in specialized Trauma Workshops designed specifically for you and the symptoms you struggle with the most. With the support of trained professionals and a safe environment, you have the best opportunity to tackle your demons. The promise of 5PALMS is to partner with you every step of the way, helping you rebuild the strength you need to step out on your own.

After a nutritious lunch prepared by our culinary team, you will be invited to spend the afternoon developing friendships and allowing your creative side to emerge as you partake in our Expressive and Adventure Based Therapies. Many people tell us THIS is one of their favorite memories.

As we move closer to the evening, your day fully culminates with Process Group. This is your chance to spend time with your Individual Therapist, in a small group setting, with people you have grown to trust and care for. It is also your opportunity to process the things you have struggled with that day, what you have learned, and to share your experience, strength, and hope with each other. Process Group is one of the most powerful experiences you can have in treatment. Because of that, we allow you time afterwards to decompress - to spend time alone, to talk to a friend, to journal, or even to cry.

At this point, you will be able to rejoin friends for a Community Activity allowing you to get out of the house for a few hours and do something fun! There is much to explore in our area such as: miniature golf, sober support meetings, and movies. Once you return home for the evening, you will take a moment to wrap up your day together and reflect on your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being before retiring for the evening.

5PALMS of Ormond Beach, Florida is dedicated to creating an environment where you feel safe, supported, and cared for, so that you have the BEST chance of healing. Not because we have to… because we want to… and because you deserve it! We hope to see you soon.
