Our trauma-focused approach helps you heal physically, mentally and spiritually. You’ll begin mental health treatment with a thorough assessment. We’ll use this to guide your treatment plan. Depending on your needs, treatment may include:
One-on-one counseling with a trained therapist helps you explore underlying issues in a safe, accepting space. Our caring mental health professionals are trained in a wide range of evidence-based approaches, and all specialize in substance abuse and PTSD treatment.
Having a support network of peers is a critical foundation of recovery. That’s why group therapy is a core part of treatment at Promises Five Palms. Connecting and sharing with others who understand what you’re going through can be transforming. Group therapy helps you build relapse-prevention skills, gain new insights into yourself, and develop relationship and communication skills.
Challenges like mental health disorders and substance abuse impact the entire family. We help you develop a healthy support system through family therapy, family education and our family program. You and your loved ones will talk about difficult topics with the help of a therapist. You’ll learn how to support each other and move forward with healthier relationships.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective treatment for changing the thought patterns that keep you stuck in mental health symptoms or destructive behaviors. You’ll learn how thoughts can fuel negative behaviors. We’ll teach you healthier ways of thinking and managing stressful situations.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Certain situations can trigger negative reactions in people struggling with mental health issues more quickly than the average person. It may take a long time for you to regulate emotions and return to “normal.” DBT is a cognitive-behavioral approach that helps you react less intensely in stressful situations. It incorporates several principles of mindfulness.
Our psychiatric team helps you manage mental health disorders with medication, if appropriate.
We offer active, experiential groups that challenge behaviors that keep you “stuck” and bring therapeutic concepts to life.
Mindfulness is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment within your mind, body and environment. Mindfulness teaches you to observe your thoughts, feelings and sensations without judging them. It’s a recovery tool you can use for a lifetime.
You’ll gain insight into the reasons behind your symptoms so you’re better able to manage them. We’ll teach you healthy coping skills and the importance of self-care in recovery. We’ll also connect you with resources to help you on your journey after you leave Promises Five Palms.
In this group, you’ll learn to manage and process your anger. Anger management group considers anger to have causes that can be analyzed and worked through, so you can function better in daily life.
Expressive therapies promote a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore themes relevant to the recovery process. Using art materials, you can express thoughts and feelings on a nonverbal level. The creative process can help you heal, increase self-awareness, reflect on motivations for life choices, and build resilience.
We connect you with 12-step groups as well as 12-step alternatives like SMART RecoveryⓇ. You’ll also learn about mental health-focused groups such as ones through the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
Many people with mental health disorders also struggle with destructive behaviors like drug and alcohol abuse. Our addiction workshops help you practice skills related to balance, the 12 steps and the progression of addiction.
Continuing Care Planning
We’ll make sure you’re prepared for life after mental health treatment with a thorough aftercare plan. Your personalized continuing care plan will include a variety of resources that support long-term recovery.
